A grid-tied hybrid inverter solar system can use the electrical grid as a 'storage medium' and/or connect to a battery bank when advantageous or required. With this type of system, you don't need batteries if you don't want them. Harness renewable solar energy and temporarily 'store' excess solar energy in the grid or in batteries for when the solar resource is limited. This type of system is a great way to offset your carbon footprint.
Net Metering - With net metering wiring connections, the hydro meter can 'spin backwards' when the renewable energy system is generating. In this arrangement the consumer/generator's energy produced is directly subtracted from the energy used by the facility. If monthly generation exceeds the facilities monthly loads, a credit is issued for the power at market rates.
MicroFIT - This Ontario provincial program administered by the IESO is no longer offering new renewable energy contracts.
